Dear [Elected Representative],
I am writing to you as a Ukraininan and a naturalized US citizen about the escalating situation in Ukraine. The conflict in Ukraine is not just a regional issue, but a global one that threatens the international security order. If Ukraine falls, it could embolden other nations like Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea to further undermine the international security order!
Russia has made it clear that it has expansionist ambitions beyond Ukraine. There are concerns that Moldova could be next, given that it is not part of NATO or the EU. This could set a dangerous precedent for other non-aligned countries. There are even deputies within the Russian Duma already making designs for the formerly Russian state of Alaska.
Furthermore, the recent Hamas attack on Israel appears to be a geopolitical strategy by Russia via Iran to distract the international community from putin’s land grab in Ukraine. This is a clear indication of the complex and interconnected nature of international politics and security.
In these challenging times, it is crucial that we stay true to our word in defending our allies. Our credibility is on the line. If we let Ukraine down, it could have serious implications for how our allies perceive our commitments to our word in the future.
The recent rise of dictatorships instigated by Russia, China, and Iran poses a significant threat to global peace and stability. We must stand firm against these threats and uphold the principles of democracy and rule of law. I urge you to support Ukraine with weapons, ammo, economic and all other means — as well as take a strong stance against any actions that undermine international security. America’s leadership in this war is crucial to avoiding a nuclear war and maintaining international security to the degree that all countries can move forward together to tackle the climate crisis.
