Sketch files in Abstract can be linked-to just like Figma files, where the developer can see all the udpates to them along with notes and who's making the changes.
Yes, one of the main arguments against Figma is that files can be easily damaged, lost and destroyed because everything is 100% editable by default. The way Figma tries to solve this without version control is by bucketing everything into lockable projects and giving account holders antique lock-unlock controls.
The big problem with lock controls, that old version control software depended on, is that it places a lot of risk on the IC to remember to lock-unlock 100s of files. Locked files as well as project buckets greatly reduce the searchability and collaboration of the system.
By having version control every designer is empowered to access-modify any design file at a company because trust and mistake-avoidance is enforced at the system level and not at the employee level.
