Dear [Elected Representative],

I am writing to urgently request your support for the discharge petition aimed at funding Ukraine. The situation there is critical, with far-reaching implications for international security.

By supporting Ukraine, we send a clear message that aggression will not go unchecked and prevent further Russian expansionism, safeguarding global stability and many of our own national interests to boot.

Funding is urgently needed to provide essential support to Ukraine’s defense efforts, preventing Russian military advances.

I also urge an investigation into potential financial compromises that may influence policy decisions. It is crucial to make sure that representives are not engaging with the Russian government over encrypted platforms for the purposes of communication and/or payment!

Lastly, procedural delays are unacceptable, particularly during crises. Streamlining legislative processes in time-sensitive situations such as this is essential to effective decision-making.

Thank you for your attention to these urgent matters.

Sincerely,

Response from Alex Padilla — Senator of the Great State of California 🐻🇺🇸⭐️

Dear Mr. Shurygin,

Thank you for writing to share your concerns regarding Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. I appreciate hearing from you.

I stand with the brave people of Ukraine in the face of Russia’s unprovoked and unjustifiable invasion of their sovereign, democratic nation. I was honored to have the opportunity to join Ukrainian Consul General Kushneruk at a prayer breakfast in Sacramento in support of the Ukrainian American community across the state.

Since February 2022, the Biden Administration has committed more than $70 billion in assistance to Ukraine, and the U.S. military continues to provide substantial assistance to Ukraine’s efforts to defend itself. I support President Biden’s efforts to support the Ukrainian people, while preventing a broader escalation of the conflict. That is why I was proud to vote in favor of the Senate’s bipartisan national security supplemental package on February 13, 2024, which would provide an additional $60 billion to support Ukraine as it continues to fight for its people and sovereignty. This bill is currently awaiting consideration by the House of Representatives.

In addition to security aid, we are providing critical humanitarian assistance such as food, shelter, clean water, and medical supplies to those affected by Russia’s aggression. As chair of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, I am also grateful that the Biden Administration heeded my call to designate Ukraine for Temporary Protected Status to protect Ukrainian nationals living in the United States.

The outcome of this war will have enormous consequences for the future of democracy and the rule of law around the world. It is vital that the United States continues to support Ukraine not only to protect our strategic interests, but to preserve the fundamental freedoms that we all hold dear. Please know that I will continue to advocate for additional funding to support the people of Ukraine, and I will always stand with them in their fight for freedom.

Once again, thank you for writing. Should you have any other questions or comments, please call my Washington, D.C. office at (202) 224–3553 or visit my website. You can also follow me on Facebook, and Twitter, and you can sign up for my email newsletter at padilla.senate.gov/newsletter.

Sincerely,
